The Ig Nobel Prize

This project focuses on using the Ig Nobel Prize as a basis for a series of products which promote science in schools, showing students the fun side to a career in research. The work encompasses a strong visual identity, featuring a consistent colour scheme, typeface and collection of subject relevant imagery. Aimed primarily at secondary school students, the products have a humorous, playful feel to them, whilst also not appearing to childish or immature.

The first product is a set of classroom posters, focused on educating students about the Ig Nobel Prize. They are designed to be more fun and appealing than typical classroom products. Half the posters feature information about the prize itself, while the other half include previous winners and their research. Following in the same style is a collection of stationary and an educational Instagram feed.
The following products are designed around the concept of a yearly live screening of the ceremony that schools could hold as a way of further engaging students with the Ig Nobel Prize. This includes advertising posters, promotional Instagram posts, a welcome sign, tote bags and lanyard programmes. The designs feature the addition of black in the colour scheme, used to make them identifiable as being part of the event branding, setting them apart from the original products.
Whilst humorous, the concept of these products and the proposed event is also engaging and memorable. When implemented in schools, they would not only educate students on the Ig Nobel Prize, but also enlighten them to the endless possibilities to a career in science and research.
